DR. BRENT DERKSEN is a co- owner and founder of the Segue Clinic. He graduated from the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine and has additional certification in Family Medicine. His first 10 years of his professional life were dedicated to full-time emergency medicine. Throughout this period, he and his colleague, Dr. Fraser MacKay, witnessed the escalating crisis of substance use disorders and collaborated closely with the regional withdrawal units. This shared concern led them to establish Segue Clinic in 2003, driven by a mission to address this pressing healthcare issue.
DR. FRASER MACKAY is a co- owner and founder of the Segue Clinic. A graduate of McMaster University, he is board-certified in Addiction Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine. As the Chief of Emergency Medicine at Hotel Dieu Hospital, innovative programs such as the collaborative on-site alcohol withdrawal unit were developed. After his tenure in hospital leadership, Dr. MacKay established the Segue Clinic with Dr. Brent Derksen in 2003.
DR. MARK HILDEBRAND has been a physician at Segue Clinic since joining the team in 2014. He has contributed significantly through his leadership in our evening clinics throughout Niagara and Hamilton. Dr. Hildebrand’s medical career began after graduating from the University of Manitoba. Following his residency in family medicine, he established a practice in St. Catharines and served the community for 20 years. In 2008, he joined AccessMD Urgent Care Clinic, providing episodic care while also operating a specialized travel medicine clinic. Dr. Hildebrand’s diverse background in both family and urgent care medicine makes him a significant asset to Segue Clinic and the patients he serves.
DR. TOM MAZZONE brings a wealth of diverse medical experience to Segue Clinic. Trained at the University of Buffalo, he became a board-certified emergency specialist in 1988. Dr. Mazzone dedicated over three decades to emergency medicine, holding leadership roles in hospital emergency departments across both the United States and Canada. In 2011, he purchased the AccessMD Urgent Care Clinic in St. Catharines, which he continues to own and operate today under the name PromptDoc Urgent Care Clinic. Dr. Mazzone joined the Segue Clinic team in 2020. His extensive background in emergency and urgent care medicine provides a valuable perspective and is a significant asset to our clinical practice and the patients we serve.
