What does Methadone look like?

Pure Methadone is a white crystal powder that’s usually dissolved in an orange-flavoured drink and swallowed once a day. Initially, you will drink the medication at the pharmacy but as your treatment progresses you may be able to take your daily drink at home.

Is Methadone safe in pregnancy?

Pregnant women who are addicted to opioids are able to use methadone. By combining your Methadone treatment with regular prenatal care, you’ll increase the chances of having a healthy child. There are no known long-term effects of Methadone on the baby.

How does methadone make you feel?

How long does Methadone last?

A single dose of Methadone can eliminate withdrawal symptoms for 24 hours. When it’s time to finish your treatment, the Methadone dose will be tapered gradually to prevent withdrawal.

People in Methadone treatment do become tolerant to certain effects of the drug and will experience withdrawal if they don’t take their regular dose. It’s important to remember, however, that addiction is an uncontrollable dependency which is very different from the stability of a methadone maintenance program.
